Follow on Google News | The only trail ultra race in Boise foothills set for its sixth running October 1• Foothills 50K Frenzy has been an annual event since 2010 • Benefits from cooperation with government agencies & land owners • Portion of the proceeds benefits Ridge to Rivers for trail management and maintenance
By: Foothills 50K Frenzy The Foothills 50K Frenzy, first held in 2010, is the only ultramarathon (a race distance of longer than 26.2 miles) to be held in the Boise foothills. It takes place in the beautiful Boise foothills that offer wide-open vistas. With its challenging climbs and descents, the race will bring together nearly 120 runners on a course staffed by more than 50 community volunteers. "A race of this length, distance, and size requires a tremendous amount of cooperation and attention to detail," says Jenny Stinson, race director. "We work closely with government agencies as well as private land owners to ensure that we maintain the integrity of the trails." These agencies include the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, City of Boise, Ridge to Rivers, Ada County Highway Department, and Central District Health Department. "The Foothills 50K Frenzy is a community event bringing together runners of all ages and levels of experience. This race is great for first-time trail ultra runners because we give them a liberal cut-off time. We want everyone to finish and have a positive experience," A portion of the proceeds of the event goes to the Ridge to Rivers Partnership. "Ridge to Rivers is dedicated to the building and maintenance of nearly 200 miles of multi-use trails in the foothills, and as runners, we want to give something back to the trails we love," says Sheri LaMott, an ultrarunner who joined the Frenzy team a co-race director this year. In the past five years, the Frenzy has donated over $2,500 to Ridge to Rivers. This race also enjoys the support of its signature sponsor, The PULSE Running & Fitness Shop, as well as other sponsors, including Pro Race Timing, Long Run Picture Company, Flynn Day Pottery, U.S. Coast Guard, Pepe's Food Truck, Hoka One One, Boise Relief at Last, and Starbucks Coffee.
