When "The Johnald" Becomes "The Donald"

LAS VEGAS - Sept. 28, 2016 - PRLog -- For a child who had a speech impediment, his biggest career move would later come from a talent voice over. That was in 2004, when actor/impressionist John Di Domenico first answered the call to impersonate real estate magnate, and now Presidential candidate, Donald Trump. Today, Di Domenico is the world's most in-demand Trump impersonator and considered the best in the industry by the Huffington Post.

Few 'know' Donald Trump in the way that Di Domenico does – inflection, characteristics – both verbal and non-verbal, and, even, perceived motivation. When you set out to 'become' another person, nothing about their public persona goes untapped or is off-limits. Taping recently in New York for a news feature, "The Johnald," as Di Domenico calls himself, was thronged by people on 5^th and Park Avenue – even security at Trump Tower chuckled at the impersonator with his signature red tie, perfectly winged hair and signature "orange" tan as he made his way through the lobby.

"It's has been absolutely incredible. I feel like Rocky," says Di Domenico. "I've been an actor for 30 years and I'm finally getting my shot at the title."

Making "The Donald" even more real is Di Domenico's work ethic and his commitment to practicing the impersonation every day while reviewing the prior day's Trump rallies, appearances and interviews to fine tune the impression as it evolves over time.

It takes Di Domenico over an hour to transform into "The Donald." An investment in three $4,000 human hair wigs, more expensive, high-thread count shirts and just the right shade of suntan orange helps bring home the character. But there's more to this actor's process in how he has captured the essence of Donald Trump – and one that resonates with his audience and when he's in public.

"Trump is such a great character to impersonate. I try to focus on the comedy of the character and warm up his persona so he can be enjoyed by everyone in the audience," says Di Domenico. "I walk a fine comedic line. I don't want to alienate anyone. As with all my performances I want to entertain the entire audience."
