By: Visit Shawnee SHAWNEE, OK, Sept. 20, 2016 - Where can you take a ride in a helicopter, square dance at a historic train depot, and check out dozens of classic cars all in the same day? The first annual "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" The day kicks off at 8 a.m. with breakfast provided by the Lions' Club at the Shawnee Airport. The morning also includes food trucks and carnival games. For a fee, visitors can take a ride in a helicopter or go skydiving. The Shawnee Air show follows at noon. Highlights will include a race between a Harley Davidson motorcycle and Pitts biplane. Aerial displays include a T-6 plane and RV aircraft flying in formation. At 2 p.m. the fun moves downtown to the Santa Fe Depot on Main Street for the "Trains and Automobile" portion of the event. Activities include free pony and mini-train rides, blacksmithing demonstrations, and museum tours. You can also learn how to churn butter, make a quilt, and square dance. Over fifty hotrods and classic cars will also be on display, along with a fire truck, police car, and ambulance. "One of the best things about this event is that it has such a wide variety of things to do. We have the air show, which is great for all ages, and the events at the Santa Fe Depot are very family friendly.
