Texas Bull Rider Cracks World Standings Winning CBR title in Conroe

CONROE, Texas - Oct. 3, 2016 - PRLog -- Living up to the top billing as the place to be in Conroe Texas on Saturday night, the Conroe Bull Mania presented by DeMontrond Auto Group delivered twenty-four spectacular bull rides including one from the next Mayor of Conroe, Duke Coon.  In spite of City Councilman's Coon's gallant efforts on Bill is No Bully, it was another Texas athlete that took home the bulk of the $30,000 prize purse and his first gold buckle from the Road to Cheyenne professional bull riding tour.
"I like them to keep me guessing said Askey about the three bulls he got on at the Lone Star Arena. I don't study bulls, I think it's a preference deal, I go at it bull by bull and that seems to work for me," said the Athens, Texas bull rider who was competing in just his second CBR event.
Askey a twenty eight old  from Athens, Texas who recently qualified for the PRCA NFR is looking forward to continuing on the CBR's televised Road to Cheyenne tour.
"Three per night was a little different for me and it takes a lot out of you, but each bull is a new day and a new opportunity, I like the CBR format, it doesn't matter what you did before, it's what's ahead of you," continued the winner.

Round One

It was a fierce battle on the dirt in Conroe as 27 CBR bull riders fought to advance to the 12 man semifinal round. With 15 qualified rides in round one, three would be left on the back of the chutes including local favorite Boudreaux Campbell from Crockett.
Former World Champion Josh Barentine earned the highest score in the round with 89.5 points on 264Z Houdini Martini owned by William Barnett, Cypress, Texas.  Corey Bailey was second with an outstanding performance on Y104 Specked Pup (Harris). Askey placed third in the first round with 89 points on everybody's favorite bull 059 Boomer from Elite Bucking Bulls.
"I'd been on him before, he's usually around to the right then leaps in the air, he went the other way right at the whistle which made it kind of fun and we got a good score to move on," said Askey about his first assist of the night.
The rankest marked bull of the night came from round one when Tim Bingham bucked off of Elite's 166 Big Tex in 2.8 seconds but the bull's performance earned him the honors and a four judge 91 point bull score.

Semifinals

The twelve man semifinal round slowed down the bull rider's advantage, but seven of the twelve riders covered their draws for a score. First rider to cover two was Cody Rostockyj and he was 86.5 points on 226 Possum Track (Rawson) and 173.5 points on two. Vastbinder would take the average lead with 174 after an 87.5 spin on 277 Dirty Little Secret (Harris). World Champ Kimzey easily handled 1 Uno (Cunningham/Scoggins) for 88 and 175 on two.
Rookie Bayle Warden survived J10 Crime Spree (Cude) and was then 176 total. The rides kept coming with Colton Jesse taking the event and round lead with 89.5 on Flab Slab (Jaynes) and 178.5 on two. Bucking Bull of the year would stop Corey Bailey's night, but Askey was up next on a bull he had never seen.
"I drew Hurricane Harry, I had never seen or heard of him, the owner told me he should be around to the left and that is what he did, went around and then was in the air and was really fun to ride," said Askey.

Shoot Out

Seven riders rode two, but only four advance to the final four man shoot out round, where the bulls and the bull riders take it up a notch. Colton Jesse was the high man back with 178.5 and he selected Tuve (Jaynes). Askey was second going into the four man with 177.5 and he looked to two champions for advice.
"Rostockyj helped me out since he knows the bulls and then Tuff said you have a better chance to win if you pick Ole School so that's what I did," said Askey who was competing in his first four man shoot out round.
Tour veteran Lane Toon selected J908 Outside the Box (Jaynes) and that left the rookie Bayle Warden with 1102 Tatonka. The first two were over matched, but n Askey had control of the unpredictable Ole School.
"The guys said he would be kind of wild, he might go one way or another and you don't know what to expect, and that is the kind of bull I like, they keep you guessing," said Askey who scored 91 points on the bull who no one has ridden on the CBR tour since January of 2016 in Hobbs.
With one rider left the pressure was Colton Jesse. He would easily ride Tuve but the 89 point score would not be enough bull to overtake Askey's wild ride on Ole School.

World Title Race

Sage Kimzey rode two bulls in Conroe to remain in control of the CBR World Standings with 709.5 points.  263 points behind the reigning CBR Champion is Eli Vastbinder. Both Kimzey and Vastbinder rode two in Conroe but their average score failed to advance them. Taryl Smith was 87 in round one which puts him .5 points ahead of rookie Boudreaux Campbell. Jeff Askey breaks the top 5 with 268.5 points.
