Celebrate the cerebral during Mensa Membership Month

ARLINGTON, Texas - Oct. 3, 2016 - PRLog -- This October, American Mensa will celebrate their members and invite others to become part of this renowned association. In 1946, the US Army made first radar contact with the moon and the first automatic digital computer, ENIAC, was booted up at the University of Pennsylvania. It's no surprise that in October of 1946 the first Mensa meeting took place in Europe. American Mensa hosted its first meeting in 1960 and is the largest international chapter consisting of 130 local chapters across the United States.

Interesting facts:

 * The Mensa Foundation raises funds to provide scholarships for members and non-members alike in its pursuit to encourage and engage intelligence. The Foundation is now accepting applications for their scholarship program.

 * American Mensa has more than 3,000 members under the age of 18. It is the fastest growing demographic in the membership. Find out more at MensaForKids.org. One must be 14 years or older to take the Mensa Admission Test; however, one may qualify with previous intelligence test scores.

 * The word mensa means "table" in Latin; similarly, mens means "mind" and mensis means "month." The name "Mensa" is reminiscent of "mind, table, month," which suggests a monthly meeting of great minds around a table. It also means "dumb female" in Spanish. The irony is appreciated.

American Mensa is an organization open to anyone who scores in the top 2 percent on an accepted, standardized intelligence test.
