By: Oak Lawn Band WHO: Oak Lawn Band WHAT: "American Gothic" WHEN: Saturday, October 15, 8:00 p.m. WHERE: Oak Lawn United Methodist Church, 3014 Oak Lawn Ave., Dallas, TX 75219 HOW MUCH: Free and open to the public The event includes pieces inspired by The Headless Horseman, a Little House in Amityville, Edgar Allan Poe's the Raven and Anthony O'Daly, a murderer hanged in 1820s Ireland. Additional pieces include Ghost Dances by Roland Barrett, October by Eric Whitacre, American Gothic by David Bobrowitz, Haunted America Suite by Justin Raines, and a big-band arrangement of Edgar Winter's 1973 classic Frankenstein. "This won't just be a concert you hear, but one that stirs the emotions to prepare you for the season," said Oak Lawn Band Artistic Director Timothy V. Norris, Jr. "We'll create an experience that's above, behind and around you. I always like to involve the audience, and we hope to share some goose bumps and a little good-hearted eeriness." Following the event, the Oak Lawn Band will host "Party with the Band," a post-conference reception at Times Ten Cellars and will feature a raffle of various items such as round-trip tickets on Southwest Airlines. About the Oak Lawn Band Since 1980, the Oak Lawn Band (http://www.oaklawnband.org) has served the DFW community performing both locally and nationally. As a founding member of the Lesbian and Gay Band Association (LGBA), the Oak Lawn Band has performed at the presidential inauguration ceremonies of Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, the Gay Games, the March on Washington, and other historic events. The group performs throughout the year as a marching and pep band for a number of parades including the Oak Cliff Mardi Gras Parade, and Pride Parades in Austin, Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth. End
