It is advisable to wash the unit and recondition the rollers at regular intervals. Washup trays, roller ends, side frames, and ink fountain tend to accumulate dirt. Hence, one should make sure to clean these areas thoroughly. The pressure of the bearer needs to be checked, so do the blankets. For the maintenance of rollstand and infeed, one should make sure to clean the idler and festoon rollers. If the unit has a zero speed splicer, then one needs to lubricate the chains. Similarly, the web severing knife and soft rubber rollers also need to be checked every day. The paster needs to be cleaned thoroughly followed by a vacuum procedure. He continues, "In the case of the dryer, it is essential to make the nozzles dirt-free. The air filters also need to be cleaned out. Lubrication needs to be carried out on the various motors, drives, and pulley systems. Of course, these are only some of the parameters of doing a preventive check of the printing press. One also needs to assess the condition of the water unit, chill rolls, and press folder."
