Follow on Google News | Vikings are here in LA marina to fight plastic pollution in the oceansCome meet Plastic Change, a non-profit organization, at the ship Christianshavn in Marina del Rey, before they leave to cruise the world's largest plastic soup in the Pacific. The expedition is partially funded by H.R.H. Crown Prince Frederik.
By: Plastic Change International Since 2014 Danish based Plastic Change has been doing research and documenting plastic pollution all the way from the Scandinavian waters, through the Mediterranean, across the Atlantic Sea, into the Pacific and up to LA. November 1st the expedition will carry on from LA to Hawaii through the most heavily plastic polluted parts of the Pacific Ocean. The research is very important as it helps to determine which effect plastic debris has on the marine environment. Approximately 10 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year. The projection is, that without intervention there'll be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050. The Plastic Change Expedition is a unique opportunity for scientists to conduct research and gain a better understanding of how plastic debris is effecting the oceans. You are invited to join us on Friday October 28th at 7 pm at the Pacific Mariner's Yacht Club https://www.facebook.com/ All data from the expedition go into a global data bank, managed by 5Gyres Institute, USA, that helps us target our efforts to counter plastic pollution. All findings as well as the observations will be communicated and used for educational purposes. For more information, please visit our website: www.plasticchange.org/ End
