Cooperstown Environmental Completes Solar Installation at Shaheen Bros. in AmesburyServes as Developer for 385-KW Solar Photovoltaic Installation
Cooperstown's client was SBI Solar LLC, the system owner, which has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Shaheen Bros. Inc., the owner of the building. Shaheen Bros. is a family run food service distributor business that has served customers in the Merrimack Valley for more than 70 years. Shaheen Bros. uses the building as its headquarters and has both office space and refrigerated warehouse facilities at this location. The power produced by the rooftop solar PV array will be used on-site and is expected to provide approximately one-third of the electric power used at the property. Cooperstown Environmental LLC served as the project developer, retained the system installer (Second Generation Energy of Milford, MA), oversaw the installation, and worked with the local utility (National Grid) to install the system. Cooperstown also registered the system with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER), which allows the system to generate Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) – an important factor in making the deal work. Peter Shaheen, Chief Financial Officer of Shaheen Bros. Inc., was pleased with the project. "Jim Curtis of Cooperstown and Ed Whitaker of Second Generation were great to work with and made the whole process painless. They were quick to respond to all of our questions and concerns and I have recommended them to others considering solar power." James T. Curtis, P.E., LSP, President of Cooperstown Environmental LLC, stated, "This project is a 'win-win' for all parties involved. Shaheen Bros. gets green energy and guaranteed cost savings, the system owner earns a fair return, and the citizens of Massachusetts have a cleaner environment. We are pleased to have completed another successful project and look forward to more." End
