Queens Chamber of Commerce, Bulova Corporate Center Conference Center 75-20 Astoria Blvd, East Elmhurst, NY 11370 NYCHA is the largest housing provider in the US and Shola Olatoye, leader of the NYCHA, will talk about her future plans to transform the agency. In May 2015, with Mayor de Blasio, Chair Olatoye launched NextGeneration NYCHA, the Housing Authority's ten-year strategic plan to preserve and protect New York City's public housing for its current residents and for the next generation of New Yorkers. Changing the way NYCHA is funded, operates, rebuilds and engages with its residents will enable the Authority to manage the challenges of declining government funding and aging infrastructure to create safe, clean and connected communities for its residents. Since the launch, NYCHA has made significant progress on the 15 strategies outlined in the plan, including: releasing the MyNYCHA app, which enables residents to place work orders from the convenience of their phones; launching the Fund for Public Housing, a 501(c)(3) that will raise funds to connect NYCHA residents to partners and opportunities focused on transforming from a direct service provider to a partnership- "I look forward to sharing the transformative work happening as part of NextGeneration NYCHA with the Queen's Chamber of Commerce's newly-formed real estate committee," said NYCHA Chair and CEO Shola Olatoye. "From installing Wi-Fi at Queensbridge and permanent lighting at Ravenswood to breaking ground on large-scale Sandy recovery projects in Astoria and Far Rockaway, NYCHA is making major progress improving quality of life for residents. NYCHA is also leveraging the federally-funded RAD program at Ocean Bay–Bayside to ensure buildings receive much-needed repairs and apartments remain affordable. Our work across Queens is a testament to our commitment to leaving no stone unturned as we work to preserve public housing for this and the next generation." Thomas J. Grech, Executive Director of the Queens Chamber of Commerce says, "The role of the Queens Chamber is to advocate for the betterment of businesses in the borough. Implicit in that, naturally, is representing all of our hardworking constituents. We are dedicated to working with NYCHA in bringing their Next Gen plan to reality. Safe and affordable housing allows more people to reside and work in Queens, and we want to be the catalyst to providing more and more jobs which will stimulate the local economy. We're eager to learn more about NYCHA's effort to potentially privatize some of the development opportunities." Complimentary parking is available when you enter the lot from 25th Ave. You can enter the building through the west entrance. If coming by public transportation, take the E, F, M, or R train to the Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Ave. stop, then connect to the Q46 bus.
