HOUSTON - Nov. 1, 2016 - PRLog -- The temperatures aren't the only thing that continues to cool off this week in the Space City! On Sunday, October 23rd, the Fall of Signature Essence (FOSE) concluded the final day of African Fashion Week Houston 2016 with an electrifying showcase featuring many emerging designer collections at the Ayva Center in west Houston in front of a sold out audience of over 350 attendees. Rising star emcee and local personality Tobe Nwigweand popular African singing sensation Emma Nyra served as the host for Sunday's fashion showcase.

Backed up by the blazing and smooth sounds of DJ Shinski and the Live Out Loudband, over forty-five models graced the 'X'-style runway in an array of customized garments. From the casual mix-n-match effects of Ankara prints on contemporary pants, skirts and dresses, to the dramatic Victorian-meets-African regal flare – there was no path that wasn't crossed by this year's co-hort of participating designers who presented their collections on Sunday evening, and throughout the duration of the series that began on Thursday, October 20th. Anchored by this year's lead collection – House of Takura, a total of sixteen designers contributed to the big stage on Sunday night – including Backseat Love, Kastoji Koutour, 3reec's, AskDetola, A Leap of Style, Adera, Moise, and the selected winning designs of students from the Art Institute of Houston's Project A.I. competition.

The evening was also met with a stir of emotions as former Miss Uganda USA (Hasifa Kivimbi-Agbolabori) lead a heartfelt dedication to the family of the late fashion designer Lisa Reed, a three-time breast cancer survivor, whose Elegant Evilcollection was presented at African Fashion Week Houston 2015 prior to her passing in March of 2016. U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee fired up the audience with a resounding speech on the importance of advocating for African fashion in the local and international market, in addition to acknowledging the importance of voting in the upcoming presidential elections on November 8th. Texas Southern University's African Student Association gave a rousing traditional African dance performance, and vocalist Emma Nyra also lent her vocals to uplift the audience throughout the course of the evening.

Many notable Houston area professionals were in attendance – including Houston Chronicle Fashion Editor Joy Sewing, the Art Institute of Houston's Marina Saba, Tilford Winery's LeQuintiss Taylor, Vice President of Texas Black Pages' Ashanta Miller, Dripping Springs Vodka, and many more. African Fashion Week Houston 2016 was attended by more than 1,000 guest over the course of four days, and provided exposure for nearly 50 different brands, small businesses and community organizations at various showcases, including the Art, Wine & Culture event at the Houston Museum of African-American Culture (October 20th), the Afropolitan Networking Series at Aura Lounge (October 21st), and the "Fashion Farmers" Trade Show on Saturday, October 22nd at the Ayva Center.

Special thanks to AFWH's official 2016 sponsors, partners and contributors – Fiesta Food Mart, Dripping Springs Vodka, Fireball Whiskey, Tilford Winery, Sky Trues Eyewear, Gold Standard Catering, Tribalot, Bosses in Heels, LLC., Fotos By Ben, Evomah Communications, and Emergent Business Solutions.
