Pet Adoptions Counselors at Helping Hands Humane Society step in to accommodate a good match and a lasting bond. One of their first rules, instead of surprising a person with a pet, let the person choose the pet. Folks in the Topeka area may do so at the Helping Hands Humane Society 3rd Annual "Howliday Bazaar," Saturday, November 12th, 2016. The event features a Bazaar for holiday decor, holiday gatherings, and for gifts. The pet adoption area is open for tours. Pet Adoptions Counselors are available to accommodate adoptions. Support the cause Enjoy shopping for holiday decor, entertainment items and gifts. Over 50 artists, artisans, and exhibitors present their wares. They also donate items to a silent auction. "Howliday Bazaar" proceeds benefit the Helping Hands Humane Society. Visit the animals Sign on for a tour and visit the dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, and small pets like hamsters, rabbits and birds -- all in need of a loving home. Perhaps you want to give yourself the gift of a loving pet. Or, if you have someone in mind to give a pet for Christmas, bring them along to see the animals face to face, and see if one in particular appeals to their heart. "Some people believe the animal chooses them," says Michelle McCart, Adoptions Counselor at the Helping Hands Humane Society. A pet for Christmas? The season of Christmas and Hanukkah is indeed a giving time. While a pet may seem the perfect gift for someone on your list, understand that matching a pet with an owner is an intricate endeavor, says Adoptions Counslor Mandi Stonebraker. Things to consider: What is the owner's lifestyle? Are they gone most the day, most the week, or are they home? Do they have an apartment or a house? Do they have a yard? Is it fenced? The pet could have separation anxiety if the owner is gone. Or, they could get bored, says Michelle McCart, Adoptions Counselor. The pet could suffer from lack of mental stimulation, or lack of exercise. These are among details Adoptions Counselors assess when accommodating adoptions, not only to assure the new pet owners are happy, yet to assure that the pet is in a safe home for their overall well-being. With the right match, both the owner and the pet's lives are improved, and a beautiful friendship begins. Adopt a pet Helping Hands Humane Society Adoptions Counselors take charge in matching pets with potential new owners. First step is to accommodate folks meeting the animals. If the follks see an animal that intrigues them, the Counselors bring the animals to a social room indoors, or to a play yard outdoors for the folks to interact with the animals. If this seems a cozy match, Counselors sit down with the new potential owner to interview them regarding their lifestyle and how it may match the pet. Final step is the new owners signing a contract stating they will personally care for the pet's needs. And the pet is brought home. A ribbon collar is appropriate, as this is a gift for the owner and the pet. Give a pet for Christmas or Hanukkah This is a cozy idea. Yet instead of choosing the pet, gift the introduction of choosing a pet. Present a gift basket, and front the adoption fees. Ms. Stonebraker and Mrs. McCart recommend making a gift basket with pet supplies for a dog or cat, or small animal. Include a card with a promisary note to cover adoption costs, that include a one-tme fee to cover spade, neuter, and up to date vaccinations. Adoption fees are at $75.00 for dogs/ $25.00 for cats. Present the basket when you meet at your holiday celebration. Or present it by inviting your giftee to the "Howliday Bazaar."
