Follow on Google News | The Village Squares Quilters Team up with Furniture Sharehouse to Warm up local Westchester FamiliesMembers of the Village Squares Quilters in Scarsdale, NY made over 2 dozen quilts as their summer project to be given out to local Westchester County residents and families in need through Furniture Sharehouse, Westchester's Furniture Bank.
https://www.youtube.com/ Susan Wolman, president of the quilt guild, said, "Village Squares Quilters has a long history of making quilts that we donate to good causes. When I read about how Furniture Sharehouse gives beds to its clients, I thought how perfect it would be to give them quilts for these beds as well." In June, the guild voted to make Furniture Sharehouse the beneficiary of all quilts made by the guild as part of its "summer project". Kate Bialo, executive director of Furniture Sharehouse, said, "We are very excited about being the lucky recipient of Village Squares Quilters' quilts this fall. Handmade quilts are something special, and I know the families we serve will cherish them." Guild members hail from throughout Westchester, as far north as Croton and as far south as Mount Vernon. During the last five years alone, more than 500 quilts have been distributed to many local agencies including: the state Veterans' Home at Montrose, the neo-natal intensive care unit at White Plains Hospital, Family Center of Fairfield County, Cortlandt Manor Nursing Home, Wartburg Home in Mount Vernon, Hope's Door in Pleasantville, and the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. "It is quite an extraordinary feeling to enjoy both the acts of creating and donating," Wolman said. "We invite other quilters – whatever their level and experience – to join us." The guild meets the second Tuesday of each month at Westchester Reform Temple, 255 Mamaroneck Road, Scarsdale. For more information about Village Squares Quilters, go to villagesquaresquilters.com.
