It's important to always have a dentist readily available so that if a dental emergency arises, one can be prepared. If an unexpected dental emergency occurs due to injury to the mouth, or decay that is causing excruciating pain, our doctors at Noah Dental Group can repair the damaged tooth. However, if a tooth is unrepairable, a dental extraction may be necessary.

Permanent teeth are supposed to last forever, which is why our doctors will explore other options before extraction is decided upon. Different reasons for tooth extractions may include a crowded mouth, oral infection, risk of infection or risk of infection. When performing a tooth extraction, a local anesthetic will be administered. If you are having more than one tooth pulled, a general anesthetic will be given. This will prevent pain during the procedure. During the procedure, the doctor will cut the gum and grasp the tooth to gently remove it. Once the extraction is complete, post-op instructions will be administered to the patient.

One cannot simply leave empty sockets after removing teeth because that isn't healthy for your smile. After the removal process, the doctor will pack a gauze pad into the socket and/or possibly place a few sutures in the extraction site. Tooth extractions are extremely safe and are a better option than living in discomfort.
