Essex County VA Homeless Shelter Opens December 5

TAPPAHANNOCK, Va. - Nov. 30, 2016 - PRLog -- (Tappahannock, VA) With the cold weather now here, the Essex County Homeless Organization will open the doors to overnight guests beginning December 5, 2016 and lasting through March 31, 2017. Bay Transit will provide free round-trip transportation to and from the shelter from four Tappahannock locations.

E.C.H.O. provides safe, warm overnight accommodations to the homeless population of the Middle Peninsula and the Northern Neck regions. During last year's winter months of operation, the shelter  provided more than 250 person-nights of shelter and more than 500 meals (dinner and breakfast) to the homeless.  Guests also received toiletries, warm coats, shoes/boots, hats and gloves.  They had the opportunity to shower and do laundry while here.

Mary Wigmore, founding Board Member and Secretary of E.C.H.O., says, "There are homeless people in our local communities right now. There are hungry people right now. During the winter, this is really a matter of life and death."

The Essex County Homeless Organization is a 501(c) 3 community based charitable organization.
