Follow on Google News | Carneys Point Township Auctions YMCA BuildingBy: Carneys Point Township The property for sale is listed on GovDeals.com, a leading online marketplace for government surplus auctions. Bidding for the property starts at $675,000.00 and began on November 25th. The auction is scheduled to end on January 18th. The property is a large brick two story building with basement area. The building is complemented with an indoor Olympic size pool, a regulation basketball court, exercise rooms, showers, kitchen, two multipurpose rooms, conference rooms and offices. The building also has an auditorium with a stage and an elevator. Additionally, the building is ADA compliant. In 1998, the YMCA was going through a financial crisis; the Township purchased the building to ensure that the community would continue to benefit from essential programs. The intent was once the YMCA organization was financially stable; they would purchase the building back. This year the YMCA advised the Township that they did not have the financial resources to either purchase the building nor maintain the building if they owned it. As the Township Committee feels they can no longer put the burden of maintaining a building that serves the entire County solely on the backs of Carneys Point residents, the decision was made to sell the building. The Township of Carneys Point is committed to assisting the YMCA organization in any way we can to assure them success as they go through their restructuring process. The Township is auctioning the building with the option for the new owners to continue to lease the building to the YMCA or to use the building for other purposes.
