Prior to opening Home Helpers and Direct Link of Loveland, Alan spent 30 years in customer service and management, most recently as an area manager in the oil industry. Kayleen has been a nurse since 1995 and brings more than 20 years of clinical, hospital and academic nursing experience to the business. She is also working as a nursing teacher at Pickens Technical College in Aurora, where most of her clinical education time is spent teaching students in long-term care facilities.

"When the decrease in the oil industry led to Alan getting laid off, we started researching franchise opportunities. With the increasing need of elderly care services and our genuine want to help others, we decided Home Helpers was the perfect opportunity at the perfect time, so we decided to jump in with both feet," Kayleen said.

The idea to look into in-home care services started with their daughter, Kaitlyn.

"Kaitlyn has been working for a few home health care providers over the past few years and we were intrigued by her work and the companies she worked for. We saw the positive personal relationships she built with the people she care for and the impact those relationships made on both of their lives, but we also saw a lot of room for improvement in the companies themselves. We often caught ourselves saying, 'If this were our company, we would do things differently.' Now, with Home Helpers and Direct Link of Loveland, we can," Alan said.

Home Helpers and Direct Link of Loveland offers free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on a person's individual needs. The Erdmans are no strangers to business. In fact, when she was three, Kayleen's family opened a restaurant in North Dakota. She learned early that you to work together – and work hard – to build something great. "I witnessed, first hand, the trials and tribulations of owning a family-run business. I learned early on that if we didn't work together, and work hard, the business would not succeed. This was not an option for us. We HAD to make it work in order to provide for a family of five kids. Not only did we have to live together, but we had to work together as a family," Kayleen said. "Owning our own family-run business will be a challenge, but with hard work and determination, we feel that providing excellent care and running a successful business will be met by working together with the same goals in mind."
