WOOLWICH, U.K. - Jan. 4, 2017 - PRLog -- Word Mania, a revolutionary literacy competition which has been a huge success around the world, is coming to schools in the United Kingdom in January 2017. Schools can enrol in the annual competition, which has £20,000 worth of prizes up for grabs for winning schools.

Created by global online learning platform LiteracyPlanet, Word Mania was developed to help build children's literacy skills by making learning fun. The game is an annual competition and awards scores to participants based on the number of words built along with their size and difficulty. Playing Word Mania helps children pupils master many different aspects of literacy including phonemes, morphemes, spelling, word recognition, vocabulary and word knowledge. Students and schools will be able to compete with each other once registered – and students can start practicing online before the competition starts.

"We are very excited about the launch of Word Mania in the UK," said LiteracyPlanet Marketing Director, James Harvey-Fiander. "There has already been a high level of interest from UK schools – many of them having seen the success in Australia – who are eager for the competition to be available to their students. The word building in Word Mania has been shown to be critical in helping children improve their literacy skills, and we have no doubt that students in the United Kingdom are going to love competing with their friends and other schools to win their school a share of the prizes."

The word-building competition has already become a hit with schools and students in Australia since its launch there four years ago. This year, 260,000 Australian students across 2,500 schools spent nine million minutes using Word Mania, building 69 million words and participating in more than 17 years' worth of literacy learning in the few weeks that the competition took place.
