By: SR Socially Relevant Film Festival New York Founded by actress/ filmmaker Nora Armani, the festival screens a sidebar of films by and about the second sex and presents a panel dedicated to Female Empowerment during Women's Month. Panel Women Preyed: Violence Against Women Monica Mahendra Singh is a Motivational Speaker, a Humanitarian and well known Social Activist for Violence against Women at the UN. She was a victim of acid attack. Piper Anderson is an award-winning writer, educator, cultural strategist and Founder of Create Forward LLC, a social impact firm that designs creative strategies for social change. Deborah Kampmeier's first feature Virgin, starring Elisabeth Moss and Robin Wright, was nominated for two 2004 Independent Spirit Awards. Kankana Chakraborty is from Kolkata, India. She did her BFA in Filmmaking from India and is an Independent documentary filmmaker in her country. Mirka Hermoza Laznik is the Gender Justice coordinator of the Broad Front (Peruvian progressive political movement) in NYC and of #NiUnaMenso, a Latin American collective protest of femicide and violence against women in the region. Nora Armani (moderator) is an award-winning screen and stage actress, filmmaker and the founder of SR Socially Relevant Film Festival NY. She has an M.Sc. from LSE (University of London) in Sociology.
