The Tournament, with eight strong basketball teams from Asian universities competing in Hong Kong, is an event for celebrating the PolyU 80th anniversary. It also aims at fostering connection among Asian universities, as well as promoting basketball and sportsmanship.

The other teams in the Tournament are from: Kyoto University, South China University of Technology, Universiti Brunei Darussalam and University of Macau.

PolyU men's basketball team has been in top-notch standing in recent years, having snatched the championship at the Hong Kong Inter-Collegiate Basketball Competition for four years in a row. PolyU active in promoting sports in campus

Besides providing a competition and exchange opportunity for the sportsmen of the eight Asian universities, the Tournament also provided opportunities for students from different places to learn more about different cultures. Moreover, it also helped PolyU further promote the benefits of doing exercises to all in campus.

PolyU has been active in promoting sports development in campus. Through the Outstanding Sportsmen Recommendation Scheme, 600 students have been admitted into PolyU over the past 19 years. PolyU also provides various sports and recreational activities to students for enhancing their physical and psychological wellness, so as to empower their academic and whole-person developments.

Asian teams value exchange opportunities

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Team Manager and Coach, Ms Balaussa Alpysbayeva: "It is my team's first international tournament. We are happy to present our team, our university, and our country to Hong Kong."

Mr Atay Zhansyn Altun, Captain of the team: "We are glad to meet the enthusiastic Kazakhstan exchange students who are studying at PolyU. Hong Kong is such a beautiful place, though a bit too hot and humid for us, that makes me aspire to pursue studies here too in future."

Universiti Brunei Darussalam Coach, Mr Lim Kok Shien: "We really take all the matches as learning lessons and do not mind being defeated. My team did not have much time for training before coming for this tournament, due to clashing with exam period. Moreover, in comparison with other teams, mine has much less competition experience. We also feel that we can learn from PolyU in terms of its supports offered to sportsmen, and its valuing of both physical and academic developments of students."

Nanyang Technological University Head of Delegation and Team Manager, Mr Chiang Chai Liang: "In Singapore, we do not have many opportunities to play in competitions. This tournament is a very good experience for my players. They also enjoy an interesting and exciting journey here — even just travelling around town with players of other teams, chit-chatting and making new friends of other countries can already be eye-opener for these young people."

Taiwan University of Science and Technology Head of Delegation and Coach, Mr Lee Yong Hsiang: "The tournament offers my boys the valuable chance of exchange in sports with other Asian universities. Moreover, it also offers them other learning opportunities beyond the matching field through contacting in-person different people, different cultures, different places. We did have some tough matches, especially in the preliminary round, facing opponents of huge figure and strong physique. I am glad that my boys could overcome such challenges by applying their trained skills, speed and unity."
