A hosting provider from China was targeted with 16 DDoS attacks within a day

A sharp surge in incoming traffic towards one of DDoS-GUARD's customers was recorded on Monday in the second half of the day.

BEIJING - Aug. 31, 2017 - PRLog -- The filtering system identified this traffic as illegitimate. Within 20 minutes the client was under a series of DDoS attacks with size of attacks ranging from 12 to 41 Gbps at the peak of the attack.

Also the graphs show that minor spikes in traffic were observed between 13:00 and 13:35, most likely the hackers were checking what size of bandwidth the attacked infrastructure can withstand, but after their massive attack showed no result they gave up trying.

In total, during the day, 2 IP addresses from different subnets of the provider were under attack by 16 DDoS bursts: 4 through UDP, 12 – TCP. The maximum packet rate of the traffic that the attackers managed to generate reached 153,9 Mpps.

Such DDoS attacks are average in size and complexity. But due to the fact that the targeted asset is protected by DDoS-GUARD, the attack did not affect its work.

It's worth noting that hosting providers and telecom companies are at higher risk to become victims of DDoS attacks: according to the results of Q2 2017 they receive 21% of all attacks. Therefore, these companies are encouraged to implement measures of preventive protection. (https://ddos-guard.net/en/corporate)
