AMSTERDAM - Sept. 15, 2017 - PRLog -- -- IBC 2017 – Rising expectations from consumers for high-performance Wi-Fi in the home throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions, represents an opportunity network service providers (NSPs) to solidify relationships with subscribers, and generate new revenues, according to Technicolor's Bart Vercammen, Vice President of Product Management, Connected Home in a podcast interview for journalists.

Vercammen says NSPs are moving beyond "best-effort" Wi-Fi services to deploy "managed" services that offer fast and reliable internet connectivity to every wireless device in the home – including smartphones and internet of things (IoT) devices.  As the complexity of the connected home environment rises, managed Wi-Fi will be critical deliver exceptional user experiences while monitoring – and fixing – problems in order to deliver on service level agreements (SLAs)j offered to consumers.

"We're not yet there, but that's at least a goal — to make sure that you can guarantee a sort of minimum speed within the home on Wi-FI, and that you can make sure the service you pay for, from a broadband perspective, is something you can also witness through to the end device that you connect over Wi-Fi," Vercammen says.

These managed Wi-Fi services will help NSPs address the challenges and opportunities presented by the rise of over-the-top (OTT) services and consumer devices available in retail stores that are designed to boost Wi-Fi connectivity in the home.  Properly implemented, an effective managed Wi-Fi can help NSPs reduce churn and even create new, revenue-generating opportunities.

"Technicolor is helping NSPs develop managed Wi-Fi services with a portfolio of services and products that provide network monitoring, management and optimization," explains Vercammen.  "This includes Wi-Fi Doctor, a cloud-based service that NSPs can use to monitor and optimize Wi-Fi services, and Wi-Fi Conductor, a service designed to ensure that devices are optimally connected and user experience is maximized. Technicolor's portfolio also includes extenders to amplify Wi-Fi coverage inside the home and apps that lead the NSPs' customers through easy-to-follow, installations."
