SAN DIEGO - Sept. 18, 2017 - PRLog -- Laura Vavrunek has been appointed director of interiors at SCA Architecture, announced Cheryl "Dennie" Smith, president and founder of the full-service San Diego-based architectural firm.

         Bringing to SCA Architecture 13 years of experience in the architectural and interior design field, Vavrunek will lead the interior design teams on corporate tenant improvement projects, as well as maintain and grow existing client relationships by providing high-quality design solutions and customer service.  She also is charged with developing new business for the firm's Interior Design Department, presenting the company's capabilities to developers, owners, landlords, brokers and tenant representatives.

         Prior to joining SCA Architecture, Vavrunek served as associate and senior project manager for AP+I Design, a full-service architectural design firm in Mountain View, Calif., where she was employed for over 10 years.  There, she directed a project team in the design and construction of Mountain View, California's first 14,000-square-foot zero net energy commercial office building.  She also managed corporate tenant improvement projects for property owners Equity Office Properties, Ellis Partners, and Ford Land Company and end-users including Silver Spring Networks, Apple and Tenaya Capital.

         Previous architectural design industry experience includes having served as an interior designer at Anderson Brulé Architects in San Jose, Calif.

         Before that she was the co-founder of MaxMin Marketing, a marketing services agency in Los Altos, Calif.  For seven years, she worked at various start-ups in Silicon Valley, focusing on marketing, advertising and public relations for high-tech software/hardware companies, including Apple, Palm, and Hewlett-Packard.  Prior to that, she directed teams in the design, fabrication and system integration of recovery operation vehicles for Oceaneering Technologies and served as the liaison engineer for General Dynamics in the manufacturing assembly of McConnell Douglas aircraft fuselages.

         A graduate of the University of California, San Diego, Vavrunek holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.  She subsequently earned her Certificate in Interior Design and Interior Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.  She completed other courses in international marketing at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

         She is a former program committee member for Corporate Real Estate Women (CREW) in Silicon Valley, and has participated in the Architecture Construction Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program and Habitat for Humanity "Build Days" in San Francisco.
