NSM publishes a new edition of the Hoffmeister "Sonata in D minor, Op.50, No.3" for Two Flutes

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - Oct. 5, 2017 - PRLog -- Franz Anton Hoffmeister (1754-1812) was a German music publisher and prolific composer.  Born in Rothenburg am Neckar, he studied law in Vienna, but after becoming captivated by the music scene in that city he devoted the rest of his life to music.  Hoffmeister founded his own successful music publishing firms, first in Vienna and later in Leipzig, issuing works by such prominent composers as Beethoven and Mozart, among many others.  After returning to Vienna, he dedicated himself fully to writing music.  His compositional output includes 9 operas, over 66 symphonies and overtures, 150 string quartets, numerous pieces for piano, and a great many compositions for flute, including concertos and chamber works.

Noteworthy Sheet Music published this edition of Hoffmeister's Sonata in D minor, Op.50, No.3 after being contacted by flutist Richard A. Evans.  Years ago, Mr. Evans had located several original editions of 18^th century flute compositions, long since out of print, at the Library of Congress.  Finding them quite enjoyable to play, and believing them undeserving of their current obscurity, he took the initiative of editing them and, with the help of his colleague Bronnie Stroud, re-notated the pieces to modern standards using Sibelius software.  Noteworthy Sheet Music, LLC agreed that these works should be made available to present-day musicians and audiences, and is publishing them as downloadable PDFs containing both scores and parts.
