Thousands of alumni and celebrities gather in Atlanta for weeklong events

ATLANTA - Oct. 13, 2017 - PRLog -- Clark Atlanta University (http://www.cau.edu) (CAU) celebrates its 29th homecoming, The Epic Experience, October 15 – 22. CAU Panthers suit up to play in a highly anticipated homecoming game against Albany State University on Saturday, Oct.21 at 2 p.m.

"Homecoming provides a family experience for all of our alumni to come home to reunite with friends, professors and the entire campus," says Marshall Taggart, Jr., CAU National Alumni Association President. "We are excited about our Alumni Awards Brunch, membership mixer and recruitment fair in which more than 100 Atlanta students will be onsite to learn about CAU," he adds.

Homecoming festivities begin Sunday, Oct.15 with an Opening Morning Worship Service at Davage Auditorium. A kick-off rally will be held at 2 p.m. on Thayer Quad. The Miss CAU Coronation and Ball is Monday at 7 p.m. in the Bishop Cornelius L. Henderson Student Center. TVOne's Roland Martin will broadcast his television show, NewsOne Now, LIVE on Tuesday and Wednesday 7 a.m. – 9 a.m.  A special movie screening of Everything But A Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4533594/), directed by CAU alumna Nnegest Likke' ('91) will be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The week also includes a 'Dorm Wars' stroll off performance, 'Alumni on the Lawn', a fashion show, pep rally, Greek step show, parade, game tailgate with V103 radio, a comedy show featuring CAU alumna actress/comedienne Kalea McNeil, comedian Kenneth 'KJ' Hunter and DJ PforReal. Thursday evening will boast a hip-hop concert featuring Atlanta's own rapper 21 Savage (http://www.21savage.com/). And, Pastor Deitrick Haddon (http://www.hillcitylife.com/) of Oxygen's Preacher's of LA ends the week with a gospel explosion concert on Sunday, Oct. 22.

"Our celebration is unique, inter-generational and implants long lasting memories," says Gay-linn E. Gatewood-Jasho, Senior Director of Alumni Relations. "While we reflect on our past accomplishments during this time, we also bring relevance to our current existence," she adds.

For the first time in CAU's homecoming history, the half time performance will be led by a woman band director, Prof. Tomisha Brock. "I am honored and excited to make history at CAU," says Brock.

CAU will also participate in AIDS Walk Atlanta (http://aidatl.convio.net/site/TR/Walk/General?fr_id=1040&pg=entry) at Piedmont Park on Sunday, Oct. 22. "It's important for CAU to not only highlight the accomplishments of our alumni and our esteemed institution during homecoming, but to also be a valued community partner in Atlanta," says Danette Adams, Director for Student Leadership and Engagement.
