Bosco Tech Receives Lowe's & SkillsUSA Grant

ROSEMEAD, Calif. - Oct. 23, 2017 - PRLog -- Lowe's and SkillsUSA have awarded a $9,904 grant to Don Bosco Technical Institute (Bosco Tech) for equipment for the school's Architecture & Construction Engineering (ACE) program.

Bosco Tech is one of 31 programs nationwide, primarily chapters of SkillsUSA, to receive Lowe's grants in amounts ranging from $2,000 to $25,000. The grants are designed to strengthen local communities as they provide enhanced learning opportunities for students.

Bosco Tech's grant will purchase three professional table saws and peripheral equipment. In order to ensure student safety, these saws have an automatic brake which prevents serious injuries. Students will use these saws as part of a project-based, pre-engineering curriculum that includes building scale models, testing of structural components, bridge engineering, green technologies, and construction of full-scale residential housing frames.

"We're extremely grateful to Lowe's and SkillsUSA for this grant," said Eric Tom, Bosco Tech's Assistant Principal of STEM Studies. "This generous grant will enable us to provide safe, professional-grade equipment, ensuring that our students are well-versed in both conceptual and practical applications of construction and civil engineering."

Bosco Tech is an all-male Catholic high school that combines a rigorous college-preparatory program with a technology-focused education. The innovative curriculum allows students to exceed university admissions requirements while completing extensive integrated coursework in one of several applied science and engineering fields. The school boasts a four-year college acceptance rate of 100 percent and approximately 75 percent of Bosco Tech graduates have careers in STEM-related fields.
