Follow on Google News | MTR Encourages Elders to Join Community Activities and Offers Free Rides on Senior Citizen's DayBy: MTR Corporation The MTR Corporation is also pleased to be supporting Senior Citizen's Day on 19 November 2017 (Sunday) by offering free rides on MTR1, Light Rail and MTR Bus to Elder Octopus cardholders aged 65 and above. No fare will be deducted when senior citizens use their Elder Octopus to enter and exit ticket gates in the MTR. "Senior Citizens are the treasure of our society as they have been making contribution over the years to move the city forward. We are, therefore, very happy to continue with our support to the Senior Citizen's Day and our partnership with RTHK Radio 5 in organising the Elderly Programme," said Mr Alan Cheng, Senior Head of Operating - South Region of MTR Corporation. "By spreading safety and courtesy tips in light remind ways with the support of RTHK Radio 5, we hope to reinforce the importance of railway safety in the minds of our senior citizens. We encourage our elderly passengers to use lifts as much as possible when travelling in MTR. We would also like to remind passengers to always 'Travel Happily Every Day in the MTR' by offering priority to the elderly when using lifts," Mr Cheng added. "The MTR x RTHK Radio 5 Elderly programme is one of the popular events for our audience. It is a pleasure to see the smiling faces of the seniors enjoying their trip on the South Island Line today. We would encourage seniors to bring their family and friends to explore the unique past and cultural treasures of Southern District," said Ms Brenda Chan, Head of RTHK Radio 5. To enjoy free rides on the MTR on 19 November 2017, Elder Octopus cardholders can simply enter and exit through the ticket gates in the MTR with their Octopus.
