By: Thiel College On Sept. 15, McConnor, a Mentor, Ohio native, had his pieces exhibited at Hiram College's Gelbke Fine Arts Center. The Crary Gallery exhibition began Nov. 18 and continues through Dec. 9. McConnor's "Quiet Works" are on display in the South Galleries. The paintings in the exhibition are modest in size, reflecting the unpretentiousness of his subjects. McConnor said the work represents contemplating— "If I can see the finished product before I begin, I quickly lose interest," McConnor said. "I want my painting to take unexpected turns because it allows me to re-imagine what the painting could be, attempting to leave it open-ended." Gallery hours are from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday; noon to 8 p.m. Fridays; noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays, and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. Crary Art Gallery was established in 1977 as a nonprofit art museum, which displays noteworthy temporary exhibitions and the display of historical works. The museum's permanent collection includes early and mid 20th-century paintings and prints, Japanese prints, and photographs by Edward S. Curtis. McConnor received a bachelor's degree from Kent State University in 1996 and a Master of Fine Arts from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1998.
