The stator is strongly attached to the surface of an alternator and does not rotate. As the rotor spins within these static windings, the magnetic field generated by the rotors sweeps through the stator winding, generating an electrical current in the windings. That is because when the rotor keeps on spinning, it generates an alternate current."

An alternator's rectifier or diode assembly converts alternate current, AC, into the direct current, DC, which is the type of current used by car batteries. The diode assembly is a two-terminal system, which operates by only allowing the electrical current producing in the stator to flow in one direction.
