How Honest Can Men Be About Their Own Mental Health?

MenTalkHealth is back with another great episode and exciting news about their plans for a very special episode to stream LIVE on Time To Talk Day Feb 1st.

BRIGHTON, U.K. - Jan. 24, 2018 - PRLog -- "It was great to be able to welcome the lovely guys from MenTalkHealth to Southbank Centre and Being A Man Festival 2017. Their work to engage men and women in frank conversation about how we can better support men's mental health is powerful and they do so in a way that is engaging, honest, humorous and empowering. Their work to de-stigmatise mental health issues is important and it was great to be able to give it a platform at the festival."

Alex Williams, Being A Man Festival- Southbank Centre

Between the two of them, Davey and Damian have quite the wrap sheet when it comes to mental health issues. Taking a frank and humorous approach to their mental health, our guys are sharing their own stories to help get others talking. After Davey was encouraged to open up and talk to Damian about a suicidal incident, the dialogue between them often turned to humour, just one way to reduce the stigma around men talking about their mental health.  Bringing their friend Eli along for the ride to try and keep them on track, the three friends tackle any subject that comes up with genuine honesty and truth.

It's been an amazing first year for our MenTalkHealth family, growing far beyond the initial podcast. After live talks at Southbank Centre's Being A Man festival, fantastic fundraising events, a grueling marathon in Berlin and workshops with people all over the country, they are back with another brilliant podcast episode. They are joined by the Mental Health campaigner Matthew Kynaston to discuss the topic of Toxic Masculinity whose inspirational words add to one of their most emotive episodes yet whilst still full of MenTalkHealth's unique, honest brand of humour.

Some may recognize Damian from his memorable appearance on Channel 4's First Dates, when he captivated viewers with his tale of his tics and his own mental health struggles. On MenTalkHealth, Damian says "Although I have always felt open when talking about my own battles with mental illness; I know not everyone can. I believe that when everyone gets involved in a conversation where we talk about mental illness we'll move closer to breaking away from the stigma which surrounds it. That's exactly why this podcast is so important."

Episode 11- Scrupulosity & The Recovering Misogynist - is out NOW can be found on our website, iTunes and all good podcast apps where you can find all previous episodes too. Get listening and share!

Davey and Damian are both Time To Change Champions and currently planning a live steam for Time To Talk Day on Feb 1st hosted by Gay Star News and always looking for similar projects and talks. If you would like to learn more about the many exciting things MenTalkHealth has happening then please get in touch.  These boys love to talk about themselves and always available for interviews, comments and live events.

What others are saying.

"As men find it difficult to speak out about our mental health because as we are not encouraged to admit when we are struggling. Men are also less likely to ask each other how they are feeling or chat about what they are going through. So that's why MenTalkHealth is great. It shows that men can speak about what is going in their lives, in the same way they would speak about anything else. It can be a topic of everyday conversation.

No one should ever be made to feel ashamed or embarrassed to tell anyone that they are experiencing a difficult time with their mental health. It's okay not to be okay, regardless of your gender."  Nick Jedrzejewski, See Me Communications Manager

Davey and Damian smash into a topic many tiptoe around. They tackle the subject with humour, bonhomie and unashamed honesty, whilst never downplaying how serious the impact of mental illness can be on someone's life. A great listen!" – Iain Mitchell, Support in Mind Scotland
