By: Monroe County Friends of Animmals The event will be held at the property on which the Monroe County Animal Shelter is located at 170 Kefauver Lane in Madisonville (behind Walmart). It will begin at 11:00 am with a 30-minute demonstration followed by Q and A session between 11:30 and Noon. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted on behalf of the Monroe County Animal Shelter by Monroe County Friends of Animals. There will be a varied selection of cats and dogs available for adoption at the event. Some of which can be seen at the Facebook page of the Monroe County Sheriff's department (look for Monroe County Sheriff's Department on Facebook) or on Monroe County Friends of Animals website. According to statistics from the latest annual report of Monroe County Friends of Animals many more dogs and cats must be transported to other states from the Monroe County Animal Shelter for adoption. The reason is not enough dogs and cats are adopted locally and in order to prevent the shelter from overflowing animals must be transported to other areas where they will be adopted. Walter Marshall, Monroe County Friends of Animals board president says, "I hope a lot of residents stop by. It is worth it to see the canine squad in action. Also, we hope a lot of people who are thinking of adding a cat or dog to their household will not only stop by but adopt a cat or dog.' All animals adopted from the shelter are spayed or neutered, have age appropriate vaccinations, are heart worm tested, and microchip injected and registered. The mission of Monroe County Friends of Animals is to support Monroe County government and related groups to provide shelter, food, care, adoption, and health services for stray dogs and cats. Assist in raising funds to support and promote the Monroe County Animals Shelter, support local Spay/Neuter Assistance to Pets, and provide education for responsible dog and cat ownership.
