anacortes: (lower case "a" to distinguish it from the small Northwest town for which it's named) began in 2013 when current singer Shane Chapman and former guitar player Chris Gabriel decided to abandon some preconceptions about how to make music. The two, both teachers at a guitar school, wanted to see if they could write simple great songs without worrying about how they'd be perceived or what kind of Spotify playlist they'd fit into. "A good song is a good song." Gabriel assured the less confident Chapman. "You can decide if it should be Neo-Soul or some kind of Alt-Country opus after it's written." They played their first public show at the Way Station in Prospect Heights and it felt great. As early versions of the songs from the debut album started to take shape, plans were made to hit the studio. Before production began at the Seaside Lounge in Park Slope, Chris was drawn to the West coast where he now works scoring films and other commercial projects. Swooping in just weeks before the first recordings, current lead guitar player Emilio Tostado joined up bringing his unique voice to the project and completing the sound profile the band likes to think of as Brooklyn-Americana. Today the group is made up of Chapman and Tostado along with (math tutor/bass extraordinaire) The main tracks for the upcoming album "New Cartography" were recorded over two days at Mission Sound in Williamsburg with mixing genius Myles Turney and mastered by Dan Millice at the Engine Room in Manhattan's Financial District. More About the Album: anacortes releases its second album - "New Cartography" The Brooklyn Bridge or the Panama Canal; any number of engineering wonders are examples of people not accepting the world the way it is and making a decision to change it. Often against overwhelming odds we remake the world. We make the same kinds of choices in our everyday lives. Do we accept what is, or do we try to bend our stories in a way that leads to the endings we spend our days dreaming about? Cartography is the practice of looking at the world and making your map. "New Cartography" is looking at your map and making the world. Recorded at Mission Sound, mixed by Myles Turney, mastered by Dan Millice and featuring cover art by Cameron McCool, "New Cartography" https://www.youtube.com/ For More Information: Official Website: https://www.anacortesband.com/ Facebook:https:// Bandcamp: https://anacortesband.bandcamp.com/ Email: info@anacortesband.com Upcoming Event: "New Cartography" The Bowery Electric 327 Bowery New York, New York 10003 Friday February 9, 2018 Time: 8pm - 11pm https://www.facebook.com/ You can get your CD copy at The Bowery Electric on February 9th!
