Jackson Chery and IET Band Pay Tribute to Missy Elliot at Essence 'Women In Music'

NEW YORK - Feb. 1, 2018 - PRLog -- Jackson Chery and IET Band performed along with Rapsody and Leikeli47 at the 9th annual Essence 'Women In Music' event honoring Missy Elliott. The musical director and band leader thrilled the audience with a spectacular performance.

Jackson also shared the stage with Janet Jackson who made a surprise appearance at the celebration to honor longtime friend Missy Elliott. The entertainment icon, who was just announced as headliner for the 2018 Essence Festival, beamed with pride as entertainment industry mastermind and friend Mona Scott-Young brought her to the stage at Manhattan's Highline Ballroom to celebrate her long-time friend and musical collaborator.

Speaking with words that were a true testament to the authenticity of Elliott's genius, while also sharing glimpses of the magic embedded in their decade-long friendship, Janet's words were straight from the heart.

"Creativity is a beautiful thing," she said. "And when creativity flows so freely from a musical genius, all we can do is express gratitude. I am so grateful for Missy's beautiful soul."

Among the celebrities in attendance were Janelle Monae, T.I. June Ambrose, Fabolous, and "Orange Is the New Black" actress Danielle Brooks who turned out in an Adidas blue track suit in honor of one of Elliott's many fashion looks over the years.

When accepting her award Elliot stated, "I want all of you women in here to know that you're beautiful," she said. "You gotta believe in yourself. Because there are going to be times that people tell you you can't do it or you don't look the part. But I am a walking testimony."

Chery is currently promoting his third album Heart Transplant which debuted number 10 on Billboards World Genre Charts and number 13 on the Gospel Charts. His first single 'Heart Transplant' off the album of the same name was well received from music critics and fans alike.  When asked what inspired him to write the single he stated, "Realizing the direction of this world and noticing most of us needs a healing of the heart."

Chery has collaborated with a number of international superstars including, Maroon 5, Calvin Harris, Haitian Afro Beat Queen Phyllisia Ross, La Mala Rodriguez, Young Jezzy, and Wyclef Jean. They have graced the stage with industry heavyweights, Damian Marley, Cece Winans, Susan Sarandon, Malik Yoba and Elle Varner.

They have also collaborated with major media outlets such as Forbes Magazine, to honor Kandi Burruss.
