By: Down Streeters, LLC This coming summer, the tour will be expanded to include cities and town in Western MA as well as Rhode Island and Connecticut, stopping in many of the same town and cities as soul and blues performers from the 1930s to the 1970s Singer, keyboardist, and Black Studies scholar, Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor is tapping into his research project that focused on the Northeastern leg of the legendary 'Chitlin Circuit' (a series of venues that catered to Black audiences and performers during segregation) The Phunk Hits was an on the spot brilliant idea that came about when a manager, bitter about having to pay the full fee fr the night, sarcastically suggested that The GroovaLottos play in the streets. A couple fo days later, the band was on Google maps looking at locations around Cape Cod and in the town just off cape. By April of 2017 they had a performance schedule together for The Phunk Hits, a summer street concert tour, funded by grants from local cultural councils, the Hay Market People's Fund and a donation from local philanthropist, Rachel Carey-Harper, the band packed up their trailer and started out. One street corner that they picked was across from the bar previously mentioned and in about an hour they made more in their bucket than they ever did playing a three hour gig at the bar. The Phunk Hits 2018 will begin in June of 2018 and the dates are yet to be announced. You can follow the tour by visiting: http://www.thegroovalottos.com End
