On one hand you have a historical tradition that goes for more than 6000 years, with an unfortunate downfall during our tumultuous communist period. On the other hand, we have a continuous increase in new businesses, with both Romanian and International investors. With no less than 250 cellars now operating in Romania, our country ranks sixth in the European wine list and 12th in the world. About Romanian historical varieties After phylloxera, many international varieties were planted and mostly replaced original and authentic grape varieties. However, unique Romanian wine varieties also continue to be cultivated. Feteasca Neagra or Black Maiden, with its millennial history, is the crown jewel of Romanian indigenous grape varieties. Seeds of Feteasca Neagra were found in ancient vestiges discovered in Romania, dating back more than 2000 years. The grapes are very versatile, they can get as much as 200 to 220 grams of sugar per litre. If late harvested, these can go up to 270 grams, which makes the wine reach an alcohol level of more than 14%. Busuioaca de Bohotin (Basil of Bohotin) is a variety planted successfully in a very limited area, around Bohotin in the east side of Romania. Some cultivated it also in other wine regions, but its flavour and nose are totally different. The unicity of this Romanian variety is that it gives birth to a pure rose vine. The best quality is reached at supra-maturation, when the wine gets the ideal balance between taste and acidity. The dominant tastes are roses and basil, which is where it got its name from. The wine is mostly sweet or demi-sweet with a good level of acidity for a perfect balance. ### https://www.indigenewines.com About us We are a young Romanian start-up, offering communication services.
