United Premier Soccer League Announces SOSA FC as Southeast Conference Expansion Team

LOS ANGELES - March 2, 2018 - PRLog -- The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to announce SOSA Futbol Club as a new member starting with the 2018 Fall Season.

Based in Wendell (N.C.), SOSA FC begins UPSL play in the Southeast Conference.

United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "We are pleased to welcome SOSA Futbol Club to the UPSL's Southeast Conference. Sam Owoh is a great man who has done both great things for his country and for his community. We wish Sam and SOSA FC the best as it prepares to kick off with the Fall 2018 Season."

SOSA FC is owned by Sam Owoh. A native of Nigeria, Owoh, 54, played for the Nigerian National Team at the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations before moving on to play at North Carolina State University (NCAA), where he was All-ACC Most Valuable Player and All-American selection in 1985.

SOSA FC Sam Owoh said, "SOSA FC was just an idea and then the City of Wendell called and said, 'We need you here.' The granted us exclusive access to their soccer facility and we continue to grow. We want to make it bigger, and one day you'll see us up there getting bigger and bigger."

Started in 2011 as Sosa Owoh Soccer Academy, SOSA FC now features youth teams from u-10 to u-15 and is sanctioned by U.S. Club Soccer.

"As the word went out I started getting more and more people from different places in North Carolina. People were staying the weekend so their kids could train with me," Owoh said. "I called U.S. Club Soccer and they said we could have a club, and so here we are."

Under the guidance of Owoh, SOSA FC has youth teams playing in the U.S. Club Soccer-affiliated Garner (N.C.)-based First Flight League.

The club is finalizing its venue options in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards. The team soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 140 teams in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. UPSL is the fastest growing Pro Development League in the USA, with 140-plus teams targeted for 2018 Spring Season. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining either UPSL Pro Premier Division or Championship Division minimum standards.
