No More Bundles - UK Consumers Desire Standalone Broadband

LONDON, BIOT - March 5, 2018 - PRLog -- A new survey of 1,105 internet users in the United Kingdom, which was conducted by Internet Service Provider focused news and comparison site ISPreview.co.uk between 18th January and 1st March 2018, has revealed that the vast majority (75%) of respondents would rather have a truly standalone broadband connection than a bundle of services.

On top of that a third (33%) said they would like their ISP to offer the option of taking a shorter contract term at extra cost (30% were unsure and 37% didn't want such an option), which could be offered alongside the usual long-term commitments of 12, 18 or 24 months.

Finally, when asked which was the most desirable service to include in a home broadband bundle, some 40% still said they wanted nothing other than broadband, while 28% chose a landline phone, 19% wanted TV, 9% voted for a Mobile service, 3% went for Energy (Gas, Electricity etc.) and only 1% desired to bundle it with insurance (House, Car etc.).

Mark Jackson, ISPreview.co.uk's Editor-in-Chief, said: "Longer contracts are cheaper because they enable ISPs to spread their costs and risk. Nevertheless many consumers would clearly like the flexibility to pay extra and take out a shorter contract term. This is partly because reliability and performance remain key factors for consumers, yet many fear the possibility of being tied-in to a long contract with an under-performing provider."

"Furthermore it's clear that, if given the option, most would rather take a truly standalone broadband connection than a bundle with other services. Bundling might be cheaper but today fewer people desire a landline phone and traditional Pay TV is gradually losing out to streaming providers. Flexibility is coming back into fashion and some big ISPs need to adapt," concluded Jackson.
