By: United Premier Soccer League Based in Allen (Tex.), Texas Spurs FC begins UPSL play in the Central Conference, and will host its home games at Willow Springs Middle School (1101 W. Lucas Rd., Lucas, TX 75002) in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards. United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "The UPSL is increasing its presence in Texas, and this is a big move. We're pleased to welcome Texas Spurs FC to the UPSL Central Conference. Ed Puskarich has spent his professional life in the game, and Texas Spurs has built a strong Pro Development program in the Lone Star State. We think they're a natural fit for the UPSL and we wish Ed Puskarich and the Texas Spurs the best of success as they prepare to kick off this Spring." Ed Puskarich, 55, is Owner of Texas Spurs FC. A member of the SMU (NCAA) football team that won the 1983 Cotton Bowl, Puskarich had an extensive professional soccer career beginning in 1984 and extending to the first season of the Dallas Burn (MLS) in 1996. He also was a member of the United States Men's National Team Official Player Pool for the 1994 World Cup. Texas Spurs FC Owner Ed Puskarich said, "I've been looking for an opportunity to get my players into a more professionally- Puskarich briefly returned to professional soccer in 2000 with the Texas Rattlers (USL D3 Pro). In 2001, the league became the PDL and the Rattlers, under new ownership, re-branded as the Texas Spurs. Puskarich was the first Spurs' first Head Coach. "It's the time to get my boys exposure to the next level and allow them to continue to chase their dreams of professional soccer," Puskarich said. "We've always had a men's amateur structure but nothing as good as the UPSL." Texas Spurs FC features a full youth club with recreational and competitive teams starting in the youngest age groups. The club also operates a Women's Professional Soccer League (WPSL) team. The club is hosting tryouts at Michael Johnson Performance Center (6501 Alma Rd., McKinney, TX 75070) on Sunday, March 18.
