Rick Ochs, Chairman and CEO of Spirit Aeronautics, started Spirit Avionics in 2000 as a single person operation. After the first year, and with the company's reputation and success growing rapidly, Spirit purchase Capital Aircraft Electronics. This acquisition, along with a partnership with Steve Wathen, owner of Equity, a real-estate business, brought not only an FAR 145 repair station certificate, but a customer list and dealership agreements with most major piston aircraft marketplace avionics manufacturers. Within the next few years, additional dealerships were earned with Honeywell Avionics, Rockwell Collins and Universal Avionics as Spirit moved in to the business aircraft market space. In its first four years, Spirit Avionics received FAA approval for three supplemental type certificates for avionics upgrades on corporate jets. Additionally, Spirit began to provide services to various government agencies and military branches. In 2010 Spirit was awarded a contract to modify the interiors of the FAA's King Air 300 fleet; the five-year contract was worth approximately $7 million. In September 2013, Spirit Avionics officially became Spirit Aeronautics, a trade name of Spirit Avionics, Ltd. as the business added additional services in aircraft maintenance and interiors to compliment the growing avionics capabilities. The Spirit Aeronautics complex on John Glenn Int'l Airport now includes three hangars dedicated to a full range of aircraft maintenance and modification services. Spirit also provides extensive OEM exchange/overhaul services to clients throughout the U.S. for avionics parts support. Spirit Aeronautics is now principally engaged in the refurbishment, design, development, completions, engineering, material supply, integration and sustainment of Business, VIP, VVIP, Military and Government aircraft. According to Rick, "Our client list includes multiple Fortune 500 corporations, the FAA, NASA, NOAA and other federal agencies and various branches of the U.S. military. We have come a very long way since our beginning as we look to a bright future ahead of us." www.spiritaeronautics.com End
