Track and Field Olympians complete successful first stop of Empowerment Camp Tour in South Africa

CAPE TOWN, South Africa - March 29, 2018 - PRLog -- Hastings' Tea Time with Tasha program and Freeman's TrackGirlz program brought together community organizations, such as South Africa Washington International Program (SAWIP), and the country's legendary Olympians, including Geraldine Pillay, and Hezekiel Sepeng. The two camps hosted over 130 youth each and featured a track and field clinic, empowerment sessions, and access to community leaders and resources to help sustain local talent. The events also featured Sharrieffa Barksdale, Olympian, and USA Track & Field Alumni Manager.

Hastings and Freeman also teamed up with the Pretoria US Embassy and the Cape Town US Consulate to host a youth empowerment camp with students from the TuksSport High School, as well as a training and motivational experience at the Drakenstein Juvenile Prison. "Being able to share my love of sport and experiences with children across the world has been incredibly rewarding. My time in South Africa will be an experience I will forever remember," says Hastings.

The Empowerment Tour picks back up in the fall with scheduled stops in the US and Dubai. "Our goal is to continue to provide a platform for direct interaction with track and field female role models while offering resources and tools for women and girls to be successful in their life pursuits, says Freeman.
