Follow on Google News | Addiction Recovery Centers in Atlanta to Gain State FundingPolicymakers in the state of Georgia will be moving toward funding and launching new addiction recovery centers in Atlanta, the Senate announced.
By: Addiction Now The initiative is a part of the Senate's budget to address to the national opioid epidemic. The budget presented shows that $4 million is going to be provided within the next year to the state's drug addiction recovery centers. A law enforcement task force to address the opioid epidemic will be created as well. It will cost $3.6 million and be formed within the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Legislators recently talked about tackling the epidemic by curbing drug supplies but those legislators are now choosing to pay special attention to the needs of the people who need treatment for substance use disorders. A Republican Senator from Georgia recently stated she would recruit a director of substance abuse to lead a group to examine the drug problem in the area The commission would also determine if Medicaid waivers would be allowed for specific opioid addiction treatment programs and patients of recovery centers. Unterman said that her team is looking for Congress members to invest in efforts to reduce substance abuse and promote addiction treatment. She stated that treatment programs in addiction recovery centers in metropolitan areas of Georgia are going to be ready to get the federal funding that has been allocated.
