The event is sponsored by CORE (Community Oyster Restoration Effort), Environmental Studies, Student Affairs and Collaboration Project. CORE is a group of Long Island oyster advocates including scientists, students, restaurants, businesses, volunteers and civic leaders from Adelphi, The Town of Hempstead, Long Beach High School and other organizations. Their goal is to restore Long Island's oyster reefs for clean coastal waters, healthy marine ecosystems and as storm barriers by recycling oyster shell from restaurants and festivals. On Tuesday April 17, the Town of Hempstead will bring a truck-load of shells to Adelphi's campus and students will bag them in the picnic area between Blodgett Hall and the baseball field.
