Resuscitate

All great explorers held the ancient urge
to do what hasn't been done – To step
with a wild fury into a dangerous unknown.
That longing for adventure is written
in the soul of every man.
If a man ever stops exploring, he dies.
We have lost all our treasure maps, or,
in fact, have traded them for a GPS.
Marco Polo trekked to China with a dream.
Hannibal crossed the Alps with revenge.
No one finds Spirit at the mall,
that jewel is only found
in the geography of quiet.
No one wrestles angels
in a living room easy chair.
Men with remote controls find no
answers on any screens.
In my boyish dreams I felt
the rhythm of the earth, even
when I hesitated to cross the street.
With the reins now in my hands, I take
the journey my soul longs for.
If I'm caught in a modern box canyon, I just
need to bring my heart back to life.
