RICHMOND, Va. - April 30, 2018 - PRLog -- Substance abuse treatment programs in Richmond, Virginia are thriving because of an initiative set last year.

In a proclamation this week, Governor Ralph Northam stated that the initiative to give more access to substance abuse treatment programs in Virginia had positive results.

The Addiction and Recovery Treatment Services (ARTS), has boosted availability to drug abuse treatment programs and lessened the strain on hospital emergency wings.

Richmond has over 15 drug treatment facilities, according to the 2017 National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Facilities.

T (https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/2017%20SA%20Directory.pdf)hese drug abuse treatment programs have acquired a larger range of network connections because of the 2017 initiative.

The governor indicated that because they grew their network of providers who can assist in treating addiction, ARTS has given them new instruments to battle the drug epidemic. The Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) Department of Health Behavior and Policy has been in charge of watching the results.

The VCU Department of Health Behavior and Policy researches attempts to change Virginia's health outcomes and find the social factors that can affect people's well being. They usually apply measurable approaches to make and determine programs that are intended to endorse health, advance health care and lessen health issues.

The Department of Medical Assistance Services asked the VCU to run an assessment on how ARC has worked this year.

The results revealed that before ARTS went into effect, only 24 percent of Medicaid users were actively participating in drug abuse treatment programs, compared to 38 percent after the program went into effect.

Virginia will be receiving more money to fight the epidemic in the near future as the state announced that they will receive $10 million from the federal government.
