Follow on Google News | ![]() United Premier Soccer League Announces Central Florida-Based Clay County SC as Expansion TeamFounded in 1977, Jacksonville (Fla.)-Based Pro Development Club Joins the UPSL
By: United Premier Soccer League Based in Jacksonville (Fla.), Clay County SC will begin UPSL play in the Southeast Conference Florida Central Division, and host its home games at Eagle Harbor Soccer Complex (4387 Lakeshore Dr., Fleming Island, FL 32003) site to be constructed and in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards. United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "The UPSL continues to expand in the Florida market, and we're pleased to welcome Clay County SC to the Southeast Conference Florida Central Division. Clay County SC has developed deep roots in Jacksonville and looks at the UPSL as a true next step in expanding opportunities for its players. We wish Clay County SC every success as it prepares to kick off this season." Matt Hollyoak is Executive Director of Clay County Soccer Club, an all-ages youth club and academy based in Jacksonville (Fla.) with field facilities in Fleming Island (Fla.) and Orange Park (Fla.). Founded by former English international and Manchester United great Dennis Viollet (1933-'99), Clay County SC offers recreational, travel and academy teams more than 3,000 local players while operating two 25-acre soccer-specific facilities. Hollyoak, 30, is a native of London, England, and played for West Ham (ENG) academy. A graduate of the University of North Florida (Sports Management '12), Hollyoak has been at Clay County SC since 2010 and holds NSCAA Premier and UEFA 'B' coaching licenses. Clay County SC Executive Director Matt Hollyoak said, "We have programs at every level and what's exciting to me about the UPSL is now we offer the full spectrum, the full service of options for our boys and girls. This has been a goal of ours for a while, and just finding the UPSL and the league's fresh look on doing things made us what to be an early adopter." Clay County SC has owned and operated a Women's Professional Soccer League (WPSL) team since 2013. Clay County SC President Al Cruz said. "This is a very exciting time for our club and community! Our members now have a path to join the ranks of several accomplished athletes, while developing skills and sharing soccer experiences at the next level. The club hosts its UPSL home opener on at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 12, at Eagle Harbor Soccer Complex.
