Follow on Google News | Drug and Alcohol Treatment in Ashland Boosted by ProgramThe Police Department of Ashland, Kentucky has instituted a program designed to help the local people receive access to drug and alcohol treatment services instead of being incarcerated.
The Ashland Police Department will be implementing the Angel Program. They in the process become the fourth city to utilize this program and it will be the first in Boyd County. Ashland residents will now get the chance to turn in their drugs into a local police station and a counselor will assist them in finding the nearest substance abuse treatment center. Ashland Police Chief Todd Kelley highlighted that the Angel Program is a direct approach to giving people who have a substance use disorder a different option other than jail. Kelley indicated that the program gives people the chance to go to their local police station and get help in finding the correct substance abuse treatment center. The only people that are unable to use this service are those people who have warrants, multiple drug-related convictions or people who are juveniles and have not gained permission from their legal guardians. There are currently six substance abuse treatment centers for the Ashland Police Department to choose from when finding the correct treatment for people, according to a report by the 2017 National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Facilities. Pathways is one of those six treatment centers. They are a drug and alcohol treatment center with locations throughout the U.S. Pathways has formed a partnership with the Ashland Police Department to establish this program. Ashland's treatment center has nine beds available and stays average between 10 to 14 days. Judy Fowler, an addiction recovery program supervisor at Pathways, stated that she has watched the substance abuse problem grow over the last 20 years. She stated that eight of the nine occupied beds have people who are coping with meth addiction. https://www.drugaddictionnow.com/ End
