By: Addiction Now It will be established by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority with Gov. Rick Snyder and Mike Hirst. Hirst is a Jackson resident who became an addiction treatment and prevention advocate after losing his 24-year-old son (named Andrew) to a heroin overdose in 2010. The new drug rehab center, called Andy's Place, will be giving patients who have opioid use disorders the option of enrolling in addiction treatment programs lasting 30, 60 or 90 days. Hirst stated that there are several studies that show that addiction treatment patients benefit more from longer programs and he explained he thinks it is important for people to understand the psychological and physiological effects of the addiction in order to help others. "You have a better chance of surviving most cancers," he stated. The staff of the center will be instructed to not only provide medical assistance to patients but to also help them relearn personal and professional skills. The new treatment center will feature two buildings. One building with three floors, 42,000 square feet, and 39 single bedrooms units; and a 13,000-square- Hirst said that the development of Andy's Place was made possible with the help of private and state investments. The rehab center is expected to open at some point during the summer of 2019, he added. https://www.drugaddictionnow.com/ End
