Medical Doctor First to Qualify for Congressional House District 25

Alina Valdes, a medical doctor, is the first to officially qualify as Democratic contender for the 2018 midterm election for Florida's Congressional House District 25, which includes NW Miami-Dade, East Collier and Hendry counties.

This is the second run for this seat by Valdes, who received almost 40 percent of the vote in 2016 against Republican incumbent Mario Diaz-Balart.

Cuban-born Valdes is bilingual and exceptionally well qualified to run in District 25, which is 70-percent Hispanic. Her thirty-years' experience as a Doctor serving poor communities at no charge in South Florida has helped to shape her political acumen, especially on health care issues. She believes health care is a human right that should be available to all.

Valdes is a strong advocate for the protection of the environment and wildlife and is opposed to fracking, which she says will damage the Florida's ecosystem, contaminate our water supply and destroy our economy by upending tourism and our way of life.

Valdes believes in creating jobs to rebuild and repair our ever-aging infrastructure; supports Financial Campaign Reform to get money out of politics and supports sensible Immigration Reform.
