Follow on Google News | Addiction Treatment Center in Milwaukee Assisting TeensAn addiction treatment center in Milwaukee has been helping teenagers' recover from substance and alcohol abuse.
The Adolescent Recovery Program (ARP) was created by Rodgers Behavioral Health to assist teens coping with an addiction and to prevent them overdosing from an opioid or another form of substance abuse. In 2016, 2 percent of drug overdoses deaths in Milwaukee were attributed to adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19, while 22 percent were attributed to people between the ages of 20 and 29, according to the Milwaukee County Overdose Report. When patients first show up at the center, they are screened by a member of Rogers' medical staff and are referred based on the evaluation. They then would schedule an appointment and learn about what they are going to be going through. Doctor Michael Miller, the director of the addiction program development and training at Rogers, indicated that there is a misinterpretation that drugs caused addiction. He stated that it is a brain disease, caused by chemical alterations. Miller stated that when someone is exposed to drugs or alcohol, they can lose control and become addicted. ARP assists adolescents in understanding the ailment they have and move forward with solid counseling. The 12-step program is also implemented. The stay time is between one to two months in a wing at Rogers Memorial Hospital-West Ellis, made to look like a house. They get to experience art and movement therapy, daily living skills lessons, spiritual care services, nutrition and personal wellness education, community outings and therapeutic passes. A therapist is available to have one-on-ones with each patient. There is family participation added to help the teens in treatment. Once a week, family sessions are set up to include discussions about communication patterns, treatment developments, values and belief systems, and expectations. Patients in the program also are given time to focus on their schoolwork. https://www.drugaddictionnow.com/ End
