Follow on Google News | Tempe Alcohol Abuse by Adolescents Subject to Discovery in PreventionThe Arizona State University (ASU) recently conducted a program focused on preventing alcohol abuse by adolescents in Tempe, Arizona.
Adolescents make up 10 percent of the national drinking population. Youths who experiment with alcohol are more likely to develop an alcohol addiction in the future. In 2017, one third of 12th graders reported being drunk in the past month while 17 percent admitted that they binge drank, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) NIDA estimated that one of every five 10th graders had been drunk in the last month while one of every ten admitted binge drinking. They also reported that eighth percent of eighth graders had been drunk in the last month while four percent stated that they binge drank. It articulated that 57 percent of the youths who drank alcohol acquired it from family or friends while 35 percent of them stated that the beverages they consumed belonged to their parents. NIDA stated that 69 percent of youths stated that they chose to drink due to their parents. The Bridges Program puts the focus on students and their families. It uses evidence-based approaches to help students keep their focus on school without the pressures of using drugs and alcohol. NIDA finances Bridges and now ASU has affiliated with Title 1 schools to repackage the first program and implement it as a cost-effective and maintainable platform in Arizona and across the U.S. https://www.drugaddictionnow.com/ End
